What's New
Website Last Updated on Saturday, February 04, 2012
04 February I have just edited the website and have once again listed prices for all the gemstones.
22 January I have added a few Sapphires to the site this morning including a fine 2.52ct Blue (SP3938) and a very lovely natural 2.57ct Yellow (SP3934). The 7.50ct natural blue-gray Sapphire from Madagascar is a delight (SP3932). And there is a parcel of fine, transparent Blue Moonstones (MO3940) from Bihar, India: beautiful!
21 January 2012 Just back from the lapidary is this beautiful 5ct Tanzanite that I sent for recutting. A lot of blue mixed in with the violet and a very pleasing shape. Loupe-clean.
17 January 2012 ZR3915 is a terrific 9ct blue Zircon that was just added. I just uploaded photos and descriptions of 19 Ethiopian Opals, ranging in size from 2cts to 6cts. And ten very large 15cts to 26cts blue-sheen Moonstones from Bihar in north India. These are all rare given their size and clarity (most of the material from there is very highly included indeed) and they all have excellent color and transparency. Last, four very nice Mineral Specimens were posted: all Corundums (Sapphires) there is a really nice 86ct Yellow (XC3944) in the rare columnar habit, and three large Blues, one twinned. All are from Sri Lanka.
07 January 2012 Happy New Year! 2011 was not a great year for buying gems as prices soared and availability dimmed. There seems to be a bit better movement in the market these days though prices are still keeping to their new highs. Rubelites and Tourmalines of quality and size (greater than 10cts) were especially expensive and elusive: they still are but prices have softened a bit. Sapphires maintain their price rise of between 50%-200% depending upon quality.
I have just added today a large, beautifully proportioned white Ethiopian Opal (OA3940). It has a great play of color, the large spangles of color range the spectrum from yellow to orange to green to blue to red and resemble swatches of crinkled, colored foils.
